Sale at illia going on now. Many items in store at Illia are currently 40% off.
1638 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice, CA 90291

About illia:
In 1999, designer John Murrough and business partner Robbie Moray formed illia, a contemporary women’s line with a decidedly west coast aesthetic and focus in leather. The brand allowed Murrough the opportunity to express his combined South African, English and American sensibilities and fully explore his love of flawed and washed leathers, fleece and denim. The fashion forward collections soon became a staple of such distinguished stores as Barneys New York, Scoop, Bergdorf Goodman, Harvey Nichols and Lane Crawford.
Murrough and Moray took a sabbatical from illia to refresh and recharge, and re-launched the brand in Spring 2009 with a core collection of sophisticated, distressed leather pieces. The revitalized illia debuted exclusively through Barneys New York with quiet but impressive success. As in previous years, the new line represented cutting edge use of leather, suede and fleece, constructed in Los Angeles with impeccable craftsmanship.
In light of this outstanding commercial response, illia has expanded the collection to also include highest-quality wovens and knits, in combination with brand's trademark leather elements.

Tasting Menu, July 30th – August 1st
SYRAH: With its elegant, plush fruit and floral notes, Syrah is a grape clearly in touch with its feminine side. But beneath that perfume, you may find something more masculine: bacon, earth, smoke and leather. Given the right conditions, Syrah can create wines capable of great power and finesse. As I like to say, a lumberjack in velvet boots. Syrah originated in France’s Northern Rhône; the progeny of parents Mondeuse Blanc and Dureza, two obscure varieties from southeastern France who –if they were capable of such feelings- would be boastfully proud of what their offspring had become. The French Huguenots of the 17th century began to propagate the vine, and the grape made its way around the world, finding the most traction among the globe’s warmer climates. Shiraz arrived in Australia with the belongings of Scotsman James Busby in 1832. Having just returned from a trip to Europe -primarily France and Spain- where he collected vine cuttings for introduction into Australia’s hot climate. Busby (often considered the father of Australian viticulture) planted the first cuttings in the Sydney Botanical Gardens and Hunter Valley in southeastern Australia. By the 1840’s, Shiraz was being planted in the Barossa, and having survived some trials and tribulations along the way, continues to be the workhorse wine of the country. First planted here in the 1970’s, Syrah was a little thought of varietal in California until the 1980’s when maverick winemakers led by the likes of Randall Grahm and Bob Lindquist felt that the grapes of France’s Rhône Valley could produce worthy wines in their state’s Central Coast region. They were right. Plantings have since jumped from only 100 acres in the beginning to over 13,000 acres in the state today. Join us this weekend as we pour three great examples of what this fine variety is capable of. Step On Up and Enjoy!

| 2009 PAREDON, |
Syrah Rosé |
| Paredon Vineyard, Santa Barbara, California |
Our friend, winemaker Ryan Carr (Carr Vineyards, Harvest Girl) collaborated with Paredon Vineyard owners Richard and Penny Morales to produce this organically grown, small production rosé. The vineyard itself is one of the few sites that sit on the ocean side of the Santa Barbara Mountain Range. Making it even more unique is the fact that this seven-acre site (5 acres Syrah and 2 acres of Grenache) sits atop a 1200 ft ridge facing the sea, where the red sandstone and clay soil along with the unusual microclimate of hot sunshine, magnified by a blanket of fog from the coastline far below, adds to the natural expression of the Syrah and Grenache grown here. Syrah for this rosé was cold-soaked for ten hours before fermentation and aging (six months) in stainless steel. The 2009 Paredon Rose is a dry wine with hints of strawberry cream pie on the nose and blackberry spice on the palate. This is a delicious wine to enjoy with barbequed shellfish or at the beach with friends.

| 2008 HENRY’S DRIVE , |
Morse Code Shiraz |
| Padthaway, South Australia |
The region of Padthaway lies within the Limestone Coast appellation in a large area of Australia known as “The Great Australian Bite”, a name given by Aussies to the area of coast that looks like one of the local great white sharks has taken a chunk out of it. The cool coastal breezes moderate Padthaway’s growing season allowing the grapes to soak up the sun while retaining much of their natural acidity. Chardonnay does well there, as does Shiraz. Henry’s Drive takes its name from the 19th century mail coach that once ran through the property. Many of their wines feature this postal theme as does the Morse Code Shiraz. Back in the day, Morse code was one of the only ways for Australian’s to communicate across the broad, largely unpopulated, continent. The 08 Morse Code Shiraz was mostly fermented in stainless steel to maintain an emphasis on fruit flavors and regional characteristics. A small percentage was fermented in oak to add some structure to the final blend. The wine shows lively fruit characteristics of blueberries and cherries with hallmark Aussie Shiraz traits of ripe, dark fruit, licorice, and black pepper. This wine would be a great accompaniment to red meat or hard cheeses.

| 2007 JEAN-LOUIS CHAVE, |
Offerus, St. Joseph |
| Northern Rhône, France |
The Chave family has been growing grapes in the Northern Rhône since 1481. For centuries, their traditions and standards have been passed along from father to son; as his father Gérard did before him, Jean-Louis Chave (a graduate of UC Davis) has now assumed the mantle of one of the greatest Domaines in Hemitage, known for producing some of the region’s benchmark Syrah. Jean-Louis started the “Offerus” project in 1995 with the goal of producing wines that reflect the true terroir of St. Joseph, where quality, he believed, had been lacking because of the appellations expansion. Eighty percent of the grapes for this cuveé are grown in the communities of Mauves, Tournon, and St. Jean de Muzols where the granitic soil is similar to that across the river on the hill of Hermitage. Working with ten small domains in the heart of St. Joseph, Jean-Louis stays incredibly involved throughout the growing season, during the harvest, and during vinification and elevage. All of the chosen domains are now farming organically, as is the Chave family way. Aromas of currant, cherry, dried floral and savory herbs on the nose are met with great, racy acidity on the palate. Deep flavors of smoky black plum and ripe cherry mingle with mineral notes and round tannins with hints of black cracked pepper on the finish.
